On the Snowdon Ranger Path
The gentlest of the main routes up Yr Wyddfa begins directly opposite the hostel. No car, no shuttle, no early scramble for a parking space — just walk out and start climbing.
Beside Llyn Cwellyn
The lake is a two-minute walk away, with a shingle shore, open water and mountains on every side. Swimmers, paddlers and anglers all end up down there before breakfast.
Family-run and independent
Locally owned and proudly based in Wales. We fell in love with its incredible landscapes and simply couldn’t leave! We’re delighted to call this beautiful place home and welcome you to enjoy it with us.

A bed in a shared room
The affordable way to stay in the heart of Eryri. You book a single bunk in a shared room, with fresh linen made up and lockable storage for your gear. Ideal for solo walkers and anyone happy to swap trail notes over breakfast.
The whole room, privately
Every room can also be booked as a private room for your group alone, from a two-bed twin up to the eight-bed loft. Same building, same facilities, with a door you close behind you.

ABOUT THE HOSTEL
A LANDMARK OF LOCAL HISTORY, freshly reopened
The Snowdon Ranger has been welcoming walkers for well over a century. In 2026, it passed into local ownership and reopened independently on 27 August. We’re excited to be giving the building a little love, gradually refreshing the hostel while keeping the character and history that make it special.
Come in, get cosy and make yourself at home. You’ll find a welcoming communal lounge with deep leather sofas, a dining room and a self-catering kitchen where you can cook your own meals. At reception, we also have a small selection of Welsh snacks, local produce, and hot and cold drinks — Great for a little boost on the trail or a well-earned treat afterwards.
Fresh bed linen is provided for every guest, so all you need to bring is your own towel and a sense of adventure!
